EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR : ELECTRICIAN
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an International, independently funded, non-profit, humanitarian medical organization that offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural and man-made disasters and to victims of armed conflict without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. MSF is currently recruiting for the following position based in Taiz City:
Main purpose:
Performing autonomously, specific complex / advanced installation, maintenance works and repairs depending on technician’s specialization (requiring special/qualifications/training), according to supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of MSF electrical/energy infrastructures, i.e. the electrical equipment and installations.
Accountabilities:
Ensuring all electrical installations in MSF facilities comply with MSF standards and performing autonomously and ensuring, all necessary complex / advanced electrical installations, maintenance and repairs, according to the supervisor’s instructions. This includes the following tasks :
- Carrying out critical rehabilitation tasks and corrective maintenance interventions and the coordination and execution of required tasks as well as installation of needed electrical equipment as defined by each project. Elaborating the necessary documentation for carrying out energy installations projects (plans, list of materials, etc.)
- Carrying out and updating the electrical installations inventory in MSF missions’ facilities and performing annual maintenance procedures and safety checks across facilities in the project. Executing any needed tests after any repair or maintenance.
- Identifying local technical actors, and organizing their participation in the project (training of technical staff, establishing relations with local companies, contractors and suppliers, quotations, contracts, etc.)
- Making suggestions regarding any repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations and equipment and assisting logistics department with any urgent support/advice or any relative work needed
- Managing the stock of consumable items related to electrical installation, repairs and maintenance, filling in the stock cards, carrying out physical stock inventories, executing orders necessary for renewing stock, avoiding any shortage
- Responsible for the equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary and keeping the inventory updated.
- Keeping working area clean and tidy.
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to maintenance are always completed and prepares needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
MSF Section/Context Specific Activities:
Responsible for periodic maintenance of the MSF equipment like:
a) MSF Generators (service A, B, C).
b) Electrical network maintenance in Base, Warehouse, Maternity , ANC &PNC , and neonatal in AL-Jumhori hospital Taiz and support the project on technical solutions.
c) Periodic maintenance of air conditioning unit (AC) in MSF premises and supported departments in AL-Jumhori hospital and inform his supervisor for any abnormalities like a change of ACs etc.
d) Maintain a good stock of electrical and spare parts consumables.
e) MSF High-Temperature Incinerator plus equipment (services A, B, C – as outlined in the waste management plan)
f) MSF Water Pump (maintenance checks)
- Remains as the focal person in Taiz City Project for the country electrician.
- Responsible for service of electrical equipment used in the MSF base , office , ware house and supported departments in AL-Jumhori hospital . In case of support, refers to country Energy Specialist.
- Supporting Taiz city Supply team in identifying logistics items (related to Energy,) in Local Market.
- Responsible for documenting minor/major mechanical issues with the High-Temperature Incinerator, reporting to the WatSan Supervisor, and if, within their capacity, repairing any damages following instructions from the lead technician.
- The ability to provide full support and solutions regarding the assessment of needs and dealing with modern solar energy systems in terms of design, study, installation, calculations and maintenance in cooperation with the mission’s energy specialist in line with MSF’s policy and privacy regarding electrical systems according to international specifications and standards.
- Ensuring that all record sheets and books related to electrical and ICT maintenance are always completed. Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.
- Immediately informing the line manager of any problems that arise in the course of the work, particularly about damage, loss, theft or attempted break-ins.
- Working in collaboration with other specialized technicians and workers, if necessary, or managing a small team of workers.
- The activities mentioned above and responsibilities are not exhaustive, and staff nay be assigned additional responsibilities or tasks as required by their line manager.
Staff are not allowed to chew QAT during working hours. Under no circumstances are firearms/weapons allowed in MSF vehicles or on MSF premises. Requirements:
Education:
- Essential diploma or recognized formal training in Electrical
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in their technical area (minimum two years of experience)
- Essential at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
Language(s):
- Arabic Essential, English Desirable
Knowledge:
